Centre International de Formation Européenne

Established in 1954, the Centre international de formation européenne is a private non-profit-making international organisation whose activities include European studies courses as well as conferences, seminars and publications. The activities of the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE) encompass educational and research activities concerning European integration, federalism, regionalism and changes within the structures of contemporary society in accordance with a federalist prospective.〔http://www.7sur7.be/7s7/fr/1502/Belgique/article/detail/2190813/2015/01/22/Maystadt-succede-a-Juncker-au-Cife.dhtml〕
CIFE receives the support of the European Union and other international organisations, of numerous national governments as well as regional and local authorities, foundations, and private contributors. It is one of the six institutions which benefit from the Jean Monnet Programme "Support for specified institutions pursuing an aim of European interest" of the European Commission.〔https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus-plus/actions/jean-monnet_fr〕

==History==

Alexandre Marc, probably one of most renowned founding fathers of Personalist Federalist thought 〔http://publius.oxfordjournals.org/content/30/4/169.full.pdf+html in The Journal of Federalism 30:4 (Fall 2000), "In Memoriam: Alexandre Marc", p.169〕 established the CIFE as a school of thought where personalist federalism would be taught as opposed to the oppression of individual liberty by both centralist collectivism and exaggerated individualism,〔http://www.agoravox.fr/tribune-libre/article/nelson-a-rockefeller-le-130882〕 which appeared during the early 1930s in Nazi Germany and in the Soviet Union.〔http://publius.oxfordjournals.org/content/30/4/169.full.pdf+html in The Journal of Federalism 30:4 (Fall 2000), "In Memoriam: Alexandre Marc", p.170〕 In 1964, CIFE founded its own post-graduate institute, the European Institute of High International Studies (IEHEI), with the support of the City of Nice and the European Commission. Since its foundation, the Institute cooperates with numerous universities, notably in Germany, Italy, Turkey and Central and Eastern Europe to deliver academic education of international impact.〔http://www.ie-ei.eu/en/2/our-partners_4-1〕 The Institute has an international faculty, consisting of university professors and experts, as well as an international student body. 〔http://www.gudee.eu/documents/educeur8.pdf, page 7〕
In 2013, Matthias Waechter succeeded to Hartmut Marhold as Director General, who has led the institution since 2002 and who continues to work at CIFE as Director of research and development.
